We Bought a Rig!

After our successful camping trip to the Indiana Dunes, we knew camping was something we all would enjoy doing together. And we also knew it was something we could do as a family and Ryan could work while on the road. Finding the right RV was the challenge. We purposely bought a half ton truck to keep ourselves from over-doing the size of the RV. All of the RV families we started to follow on YouTube and Instagram say to start with what you have and get out there. We quickly learned that a lot of families had the same idea. RV sales were through the roof due to people looking for a safe way to escape and have a good time outdoors and away from home. We knew that finding an RV that would meet our needs for a family of five and allow Ryan space to set up a desk for work would be a bit of a challenge. We spent a lot of time visiting RV dealerships walking through various RVs to see the floorplans and then compare the new prices versus used inventory online. Eventually we discovered a floor plan where the queen bed in the master was on a slide out allowing space at the end of the bed to put in a desk. And this plan had a small bunk room for all the kids in the front. We could have ordered one new, but the RV dealers in the area all had no idea how long it might take to get one due to the influx of orders and shortage of supplies due to COVID. The day after discovering this floorplan we came across a listing for a used Grey Wolf in Hinkley, IL. I found it on Facebook Marketplace and Ryan found it on Craigslist. I think we sent the link to each other almost simultaneously. We loaded up the kids the next day, on Mera’s birthday, to drive the 2 hours to check it out. It was an older unit that had two previous owners. It had been very well taken care of and we knew with a few modifications, we could easily make the space in this rig work for our family. We left a down payment and the next weekend, we were the new owners of a 2012 Forest River Grey Wolf 29BHS.
