Weekend Getaway
After a few weeks back at home with nowhere to go, we were itching to get back on the road. We decided to take a quick weekend trip to Indian Lakes RV Campground in Batesville, IN. This park is part of the Thousand Trails system and also a KOA park. We decided to purchase the regional Thousand Trails pass. This allows us to stay at any park within our region for free for up to 14 days. After 14 days we would have to stay outside of the system for 7 days before booking another stay with a Thousand Trails park. When you arrive at a Thousand Trails park, you basically drive around to find an open spot and then let the staff know which spot you chose. They do not assign spots and you are not always guaranteed full-hook ups. We managed to find a tight, very unlevel spot, with water and electric hook-ups for the two nights we were there. The dump station at the park was nice and had easy access, so no sewer connections at the site worked out fine. The spots in the area we were told to choose from were gravel and had very large ruts in them. We all tripped in them at one point or another. This park, however, was really nice. There were multiple very large playground areas, mini golf, tennis courts, and a lake with a small beach area. It was pretty chilly and the lake was a long walk from the campground, but the kids insisted they had to feel the water. Well, as it tends to go with our three, feel the water quickly turned into full out swimming in the cool water in their clothes. We know the water was probably warmer than the air that day, as Ryan and I sat there laughing about how cold they were going to be on the walk back to the campsite. Sure enough, when they were done swimming, they had goosebumps and chattery teeth until we made it back to dry clothes. They all agreed it was worth it to get in another swim as summer was quickly coming to a close. Aside from the unlevel site, this campground was very nice and we would stay here again.
UPDATE: We have recently learned this Thousand Trails park is being updated. They are getting two new large pools and updated bathhouses, among other amenities.
